Compatibility
MycoBox home · Documentation · Getting started
Use this guide to choose sensors, smart plugs and power strips for MycoBox.
Main hardware
| Component | What it does |
|---|---|
| ESP32-S3 | Runs the main controller, automation and web panel |
| ESP32-H2 | Connects to Zigbee plugs, strips and the optional Ambient sensor |
| DS3231 | Keeps the clock running offline |
| SSD1306 128 × 32 display and joystick | Shows status and provides local controls |
For component connections and roles, see Hardware overview. Replacement parts need to match your controller’s wiring and power supply.
Environmental sensors
| Sensor | Support |
|---|---|
| One Sensirion SHT41 connected to the Main Controller | Chamber temperature and relative humidity; used for automation |
| SCD4x or SHT3x | Not supported |
| One compatible Zigbee temperature/humidity sensor | Ambient readings and history for comparison; not used for automation |
| Water-level or leak sensors | Not supported |
MycoBox currently measures temperature and humidity, without CO₂. See sensor placement for where to mount the SHT41 and sensor states for heating and cooling messages.
The Ambient sensor must use the Zigbee Home Automation profile and provide both standard temperature and relative-humidity measurements. Sensors using only manufacturer-specific data are not supported. Reporting frequency depends on the sensor; battery-powered models may sleep between reports. A reading becomes outdated after 30 minutes without a new report.
Support for these standard measurements does not guarantee that every sensor model will work. Check the exact model and revision, or share a compatibility result below.
Zigbee actuator compatibility
| Feature | Support |
|---|---|
| Paired devices | Up to six in total, including plugs, strips and at most one Ambient sensor |
| Switching | Independent ON/OFF outputs using the Zigbee Home Automation profile |
| Available roles | Humidifier, Fan, Light and Heat |
| Assignments | A different device-and-output combination for each role; roles can use different devices |
| Output limit | Up to 32 detected outputs per device, numbered 1–240 |
A single smart plug can serve one role. For several roles, use separate plugs, a strip with independently switched outputs, or a combination. Each strip takes one of the six device places. Check its electrical ratings against your appliances.
The detected output numbers may differ from socket labels. Follow Zigbee setup to identify them.
Zigbee device types not currently supported
MycoBox does not currently control dimming, color or color temperature. It also cannot use devices that expose only manufacturer-specific outputs instead of compatible ON/OFF outputs.
If the panel reports a discovery error, try the connection checks. That message means MycoBox could not read the device; it may still be compatible.
Verified device models
| Brand | Model | Device | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| BORUIDAPLS | WP34 | Zigbee power strip | Tested with MycoBox as a multi-output switch |
| — | ZOT60-FR | Zigbee smart plug | Tested with MycoBox for ON/OFF switching |
| — | ZTH11 | Zigbee temperature/humidity sensor | Tested with MycoBox as an Ambient sensor; temperature and humidity monitoring only, not used for automation |
| SONOFF | SNZB-02WD | Zigbee temperature/humidity sensor | Tested with MycoBox as an Ambient sensor; temperature and humidity monitoring only, not used for automation |
Check the exact model and revision when buying: similar-looking strips can use different hardware.
Firmware versions and compatibility
Read the release instructions before updating, especially if both controllers need a new version. The firmware guide explains which files to choose and what happens to saved settings.
The first upgrade from older single-device firmware to six-device support needs a USB update of both controllers, a fresh configuration and pairing again. Once both controllers use compatible six-device firmware, normal updates through the panel preserve settings, pairing and assignments.
Reporting compatibility results
Tested another device? Share the result with:
- its brand, model and revision;
- the S3 and H2 firmware versions;
- whether pairing worked and which outputs were found;
- which sockets switched independently in ON/OFF tests;
- for a sensor, whether temperature and humidity arrived and how often they refreshed;
- any error shown by the panel.
